In her years as a dedicated volunteer with the Wexford Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (WSPCA), Brigid Cullen has seen a lot. Every now and again though, she’ll come across a case so horrific that it leaves her dumbstruck and upset. That was the case over the weekend as she was called to assist with three emaciated dogs roaming around outside of Wexford in scorching heat.A passer-by and his three children noticed the dogs roaming near the slipway at Ferrycarrig and managed to catch one of them – an Old English Sheepdog. A beautiful breed, this dog was completely emaciated with a matted coat and mange. While the man managed to hold onto the Old English Sheepdog, Brigid and the dog warden were called in to try and track down the other two. Eventually they came across them and it was an upsetting sight.“The other two were a bearded collie and a lurcher,” Brigid explains. “The lurcher was just standing over the bearded collie. I just thought it was a bundle of rags. He was just lying on the ground in the heat and couldn’t get up. We tried to give him water, but he couldn’t even drink it.”Two of the three dogs were microchipped and the relevant authorities, including An Garda Síochána have been informed and efforts are under way to identify the owners.Read the full article: https://www.independent.ie/regionals/wexford/wexford-district/investigation-ongoing-after-emaciated-dogs-found-roaming-wexford-i-thought-it-was-a-bundle-of-rags/a1421995467.html?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=seeding
